Shop Small This Christmas
In our latest blog post, we discussed “Bruntsfield: The Secrets of Edinburgh’s South Side.” And what’s not to love, there are sooo many lovely independent businesses to explore! Today, I would like to encourage you to shop local this Christmas.
It’s been a tricky few years for many small business owners. From just making it out of lockdown, to rising energy prices, the retail industry has become a very uncertain landscape.
Therefore, supporting local businesses this Christmas is more important than ever. Here are 5 reasons to shop local this Christmas:
Retail footfall is sadly decreasing. UK retail footfall dropped by 12.4% in August 2022 from 3 years earlier. Therefore, local shops need your support more than ever. Did you know that for every £1 spent with a small or medium-sized business 63p stayed in the local economy, compared to 40p with a larger business? Help give the local economy a boost, and shop locally this Christmas.
Shopping locally is also a more ethically responsible choice. Shopping locally means you’re more likely to walk or cycle to get to the shops. Cutting out air pollution in this way improves the quality of our local areas.
There’s also the carbon footprint of the items themselves. Our clothes are British manufactured. This helps to reduce our carbon footprint as there’s less of a distance between the manufacturer and our active wear hitting the shelves.
There’s nothing better than the community within your local area. Strolling down your local high street with bustling independent businesses has the knock-on effect of a healthy and prosperous community, making it a better place to live.
Shopping locally is a much more pleasant experience. Forget navigating busy shopping centres, instead, shop locally for stress free Christmas shopping!
And last, but not least, you can’t find us anywhere else! Our small independent nature means that our items are unique to the place that we sell them in. You won’t find anything like us in national chain stores. Unique and thoughtful gifts are the way to go this Christmas.
So, when Christmas shopping comes around, why not pop along to Bruntsfield, and explore the many gems it has to offer.
